Anna Smelova

Anna Smelova is an adjunct professor of Russian and Soviet history at Georgetown University.

She defended her dissertation in Spring 2025, which explores the role of Russian exiled ethnographers in the "conceptual conquest" of Siberia in late imperial and early Soviet Russia. 

Anna holds a BA in History from the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg (2016) and an MA in Comparative History from Central European University in Budapest (2018).

Anna's academic interests include modern Russian History, the history of Siberia's ethnographic exploration, the social history of late imperial Russia, and intellectual history.
