Anna Smelova
Anna Smelova teaches Russian and Soviet history in the Department of History.
She completed her PhD in Spring 2025 with a dissertation that explores the role of Russian exiled ethnographers in the "conceptual conquest" of Siberia in late imperial and early Soviet Russia.
She holds a BA in History from the Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg (2016) and an MA in Comparative History from Central European University in Budapest (2018).
Anna's academic interests include modern Russian History, the history of Siberia's ethnographic exploration, the social history of late imperial Russia, and intellectual history.
