Think “deep learning” and “big tech” go hand in hand? They certainly do. But just focusing on the behemoths misses the larger picture, says Rebecca Bilbro, Chief Data Strategist at ICX Media. “It is a common misperception that it’s just the big guys—Google, Amazon, Facebook—who are doing real deep learning and putting it to real business use,” says Bilbro, Ph.D., who teaches in Georgetown University’s Certificate in Data Science. “In fact, a lot of small companies, public sector organizations, and nonprofits, are using deep learning techniques, particularly in the language processing space.” Here, Bilbro talks with the program’s Faculty Director, Benjamin Bengfort, Ph.D., about the critical skills data scientists will need to take full advantage of this trend.
