In Focus | Supply Chain Advice for Start-Ups

For an enterprise as complex as supply chain management, James Jacobe offers some remarkably simple advice: “The most important thing is that you need to start right so that you can finish right,” says Jacobe, Head of Operations for Clarity Cosmetics and an instructor in the Master’s in Supply Change Management program at Georgetown University. And that means being able to identify all your components and track them throughout your processes. Too many start-ups look at inventory management as a necessity rather than the opportunity it is, Jacobe tells Faculty Director Linda Dunn: “But I truly believe that if you build the infrastructure or the foundation for your organization, you can handle any future growth that’s going to come down your path as a new start-up.”
