Claire Bents is a second-year doctoral student in the History Department at Georgetown University.
Her research centers on the intersecting histories and legacies of slavery and piracy across the Atlantic World. Born and raised in Minnesota, Claire attended St. Olaf College and graduated with a B.A. in both History and Social Studies Education. She taught a wide assortment of Social Studies courses at Lakeville South High School for three years before heading east to pursue her doctorate. Claire continues to pursue her passion for bridging academic research and education through her work with the Diplomatic Reception Room's Declaration of Learning Program, hoping to instill a love of history in students through object-based learning and inquiry-driven education. If not working, Claire can often be found watching baseball.
