Shyam Kannan serves on the faculty of the Urban & Regional Planning program, where he teaches the course on Urban Economics. His career includes extensive experience providing financial and market feasibility advisory services for developers in the region and across the nation - including signature projects in Washington, D.C. such as DCUSA, Capitol Riverfront, City Vista, and Nationals Park. He is currently the Transportation Planning lead in the Northeast USA for HDR, a leading global architecture, infrastructure, and engineering firm. Prior to HDR, he served as WMATA's VP of Planning from 2012-2022, which followed a decade of experience working for RCLCO, a leading real estate advisory firm. He is a member of ULI-DC's management committee, leads the transit-oriented communities subcommittee at the American Public Transportation Association and is a Board Member of Greater Greater Washington Commons. He holds masters degrees from Harvard University's Kennedy School and Harvard Design School, a Bachelors from the University of Virginia, and is a proud alum of Teach For America..
