Nina Bishop

Nina has served in many senior positions throughout government, the private sector and academia. Nina has been an adjunct professor at Georgetown for ten years, teaching both on campus and online. She teaches Corporate Social Responsibility & Globalization, Management & Leadership, Applied Ethics, Capstone and The Business of Global Sporting Events. She recently earned Georgetown’s Tropaia Outstanding Faculty Award for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Prior to Georgetown, Nina served in many senior positions throughout government and the private sector. She created the SportsUnited Office at the U. S. Department of State and served as its director for seven years. The office established sports exchanges as an Integral marketing tool for public diplomacy. Exchanges took place in 44 regionally diverse countries and partners included all major sports leagues and sports federations as well as academia and non-profits. She was responsible for crafting and implementing the Sports Envoy program that sent more than 120 U.S. athletes and coaches to 39 countries to speak and conduct clinics for youth ages 7 to 17; and the Sports Visitors exchange that brought over 600 athletes and coaches from 44 countries to the U.S. for a comprehensive sports program. She also managed an annual federal sports grant competition that awarded 79 grants for $12M to U.S. based non-profits. Nina was a U.S. Department of State representative to the United Nations, coordinating all sports related truces and resolutions, and was the principal negotiator for the 2009/2010 U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission on Education, Culture and Sports. She was the State Department’s liaison to the World Cup 2022 U.S. Bid Committee and the Chicago 2016 and New York 2012 Olympic Bid Committees. Nina was also a White House Advance Lead for the 2008 Summer Olympics in China and the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Prior to establishing the SportsUnited Office, she was Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs and Deputy Director of the State Department’s Strategic Communications Office. Before joining the State Department, Nina was Director of Events for the 2000 Presidential Campaign and worked as a publicist and talent booker for Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network in Atlanta, GA. Nina graduated from Babson College with a B.S. in International Finance and Investments and holds a M.B.A. from Mercer University in Atlanta, GA.
