Michael Lorenzen

Dr. Mike Lorenzen is currently Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of California, Davis. His responsibilities there include sport supervision of Indoor Volleyball, Swimming and Diving, and Beach Volleyball, as well as the "Student-Athlete Outcomes Department". The latter is UC Davis' effort to develop a four year, fully integrated process of academic and career advising that includes required work every year by student-athletes to prepare for a successful "launch" after graduation. Prior to Davis, Mike worked at Georgetown as Assistant Athletic Director and Director of the Cooper Athletics Leadership Program, one of the first internally developed and academically grounded leadership development programs required of all student-athletes. He taught Capstone, The Business of Intercollegiate Athletics, and Leadership in Sports Management in the SIM program. His previous teaching experience included Strategic Management in Sports at the University of San Francisco.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, a Master of Arts in International Finance and Management from Yale University, and a Doctor of Education from the University of the Pacific. His primary areas of interest for research, writing, consulting, and teaching include leadership, team dynamics, and strategic planning/management. Prior to his administrative career, Mike spent most of his professional life as a gymnastics coach working at the Olympic, Junior Olympic and NCAA levels, including stops at Stanford, Arizona State, and the University of Iowa.
