Mission Statement

The Georgetown University Executive Master of Professional Studies in Humanitarian Crisis & Emergency Management equips students to think critically and compassionately, analyze data effectively, and lead ethically in order to prepare for, respond to, mitigate, and recover from global crisis events.

Learning Goals

Upon successfully completing the Executive Master's in Humanitarian Crisis & Emergency Management, you will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate the policies and practices of humanitarian crisis and emergency management to generate professional recommendations for disaster prevention and future crisis management.
  • Integrate social and cultural aspects of humanitarian crisis and emergency management preparedness and response in designing solutions to serve and collaborate with diverse global actors in intercultural settings.
  • Develop effective practices for working within the parameters of local, state, federal, and international rules, regulations, and procedures to respond ethically, and in a humanitarian manner, to humanitarian crisis and emergency management situations.
  • Combine theory, industry knowledge and practice, and research to create and implement a range of humanitarian crisis and emergency management strategies at specific executive strategic and operational levels.
  • Analyze and interpret data from a variety of reliable, credible, and valid sources to inform data-driven decision-making and resource management.
  • Creatively use relevant technologies to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from humanitarian crisis and emergency management situations.
  • Analyze cultural, societal, and behavioral perspectives to develop effective preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery strategies that can be implemented across local, state, federal, and international levels.
