Gina Garcia
Gina Garcia Alger has lived and worked in Washington DC for nearly two decades. A Texas Transplant, she’s particularly fond of good Mexican food, casino rueda dancing, and those who follow the golden rule.
Gina’s nearly 20 years commitment to storytelling has led to more than 500 stories of covering breaking world and national news and sharing the stories of everyday people in extraordinary situations. As Assistant Dean of the Marketing and Communications Graduate Programs, she manages a team of program staff who leads hundreds of students through the Georgetown's Design Management and Communications, Integrated Marketing and Communications, Journalism and the Public Relations and Corporate Communications Master’s Degree Programs. She oversees the student experience from prospective student recruitment through to alumni advising, creates numerous professional development events and marketing partnerships leading many to launch successful careers in the media and communications industry. She also teaches an internship class for the Marketing and Communications Graduate students and the Social Media Management course that is part of the Georgetown Professional Certificate Programs Certificate.
Previously, Gina was a Producer with CBS and NBC National News and she is twice Emmy nominated for her individual producing efforts and was nominated for a Peabody award. Her communications profession was kick-started after serving as an intern with Dateline NBC and during that internship, she was tapped to the NBC News Page Program. The rest is a storied history of working with local NBC Washington DC, for political powerhouse Tim Russert, the NBC Network Newsdesk, The Today Show and CBS This Morning.
Her passion lies in storytelling and leading. For 15 years, Garcia served as the VP of Public Affairs for Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc., a national community service sorority. In this position, she was charged with curating the overarching integrated marketing and communications plan for social media strategies, internal and external communications, website presence and overall brand management. She initiated and lead a rebrand of the organization that garnered a 2015 Gold MARCOM award that recognizes outstanding creative achievement by marketing and communication professionals.
Gina is an engaging and dynamic speaker, leader, and volunteer who is passionate about storytelling. She inspires and equips corporations, nonprofits, and individuals with the knowledge and skills to tell their best stories to have the most impact on the communities and consumers they serve. She was hand-selected by the Dean of Georgetown SCS to receive the 2022 Spirit of Georgetown Award. She is married and lives with her husband and two children in Austin, TX.
