Executive Master's in Humanitarian Crisis & Emergency Management
Curriculum

To earn an Executive Master’s in Humanitarian Crisis & Emergency Management, you must successfully complete five courses (30 credits total), including the following:

  • Ethical Strategic Leadership, Theory & Legal Framework (6 credits)
    • Residency Location: Virtual
    • Residency Dates: October 1–7, 2025 (break on the weekend)
  • Natural & Technological Hazards and Climate Change (6 credits)
    • Residency Location: Tokyo/Fukushima, Japan
    • Residency Dates: December 1–5, 2025
    • Overview: Engagement opportunities may include, but are not limited to, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) Operations Center, Bureau of Construction, River Division (concerning flooding and flood risks), the Nuclear Damage Compensation and Decommissioning Facilitation Corporation (NDF), and the Japan Meteorological Agency (concerning weather observation, earthquake detection, etc.). There will also be multiple learning opportunities with NGOs and private sector organizations, including the Japan Voluntary Agencies Active in Disaster (VOAD), Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, and a member of the Japanese Parliament.
  • Global Conflict: Terrorism, War, & Disasters (6 credits)
    • Residency Location: Doha, Qatar
    • Residency Dates: February 22–26, 2026
  • Global Health & Pandemic (6 credits)
    • Residency Location: Virtual
    • Residency Dates: April 22–28, 2026 (break on the weekend)
  • Humanitarian Crisis Management (6 credits)
    • Residency Location: Geneva, Switzerland
    • Residency Dates: August 3–7, 2026

Program Format

The Humanitarian Crisis & Emergency Management program is structured in a cohort model with modular online synchronous sessions and immersive in-person and virtual residency experiences.

Accreditation

All programs offered by Georgetown University are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
