As the vice president for external affairs for WETA, Mary Stewart directs corporate communications, brand management, media relations, advertising, community engagement events, publications and graphic design for the leading public broadcaster in the nation’s capital. She oversees a team of public relations specialists and serves as a member of the senior management of the $110 million public media company. Much of her work is developing communications campaigns for national television and media projects with the goal of creating national dialogue and meaningful engagement around civic and cultural issues. Formerly, she held development and promotions positions with Arena Stage and The Rouse Company. Interested in the intersection between cultural practices and visual communications, Mary has her undergraduate degree from Princeton University in Art History and her master’s from George Washington University in American Studies with an emphasis on visual culture. She received her APR from the Public Relations Society in 1999.1
