An accredited public relations professional with a public speaking background spanning over 20 years, Sultana F. Ali works as a senior communications manager as part of the institutional and strategy team at The Pew Charitable Trusts, a nonprofit which applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improve public policy, inform the public, and invigorate civic life. In her role, she develops proactive strategies for Pew’s institutional communications and helps chart core initiatives, working collaboratively with researchers and communicators across the organization. She also contributes to institutional communications--including podcasts and publications, supports executive communications and spokesperson training, facilitates media partnerships, and works collaboratively to craft messages and train experts studying issues from financial mobility to the environment to communicate clearly and effectively. Previously, she served as the media and communications lead on consumer finance and economic mobility issues within the Family Economic Stability portfolio at Pew, regularly working with national journalists at media outlets including The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, NPR, Huffington Post, and CNNMoney, among numerous others, to provide timely and relevant data and context to stories that impact the financial lives of Americans. Prior to Pew, Sultana was the Director of Public Relations for Liquidity Services, a publicly-traded, DC-based technology company, where she managed media relations, helped lead a rebrand of the organization, and worked with the C-suite to hone messages and speak to media, facilitate stakeholder relationships, and enhance internal and external communications. She also previously worked for Ketchum’s Washington, D.C. office in its social marketing department serving clients—including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, FedEx, and Bayer Consumer Health Care—in strategic communications, media relations, and corporate social responsibility. After five years in marketing and technical writing, Sultana began her PR career in 2004 at an agency in Orlando, Florida where she directed communications strategy for clients ranging from an NBA player's foundation, to Congressional campaigns, to one of the leading Supervisor of Election’s offices in the U.S., where she served as spokeswoman during the 2008 and 2010 elections and produced a local television show aimed at educating voters on election-related topics. Sultana is a lifelong volunteer, having served in various board leadership roles and as a youth mentor in high schools, she has spoken at the United Nations and successfully engaged groups on how to impact youth and increase dialogue on global issues. She has a Master’s degree in Strategic Public Relations from The George Washington University and received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida in Marketing with a focus on International Business, and a minor in Political Science. She is an active member and leader in PRSA-NCC, the largest chapter of PR professionals in the U.S., where she’s also served as President.
