There are many ways to make an impact, but perhaps none more fundamental than developing the spaces where people live and work. That’s what Jerry Ricciardi does as a Senior Vice President for Trammell Crow Company, one of the nation’s largest developers in commercial real estate.

“We’re actively shaping where people are going to live,” said Ricciardi, a specialist in mixed-use developments who is currently working on the ambitious Armature Works project, which will include residences, shopping, dining, and public spaces in D.C.’s popular NoMa district. “We’re developing a building that people are going to live and function in. That’s very exciting for me.”

Ricciardi began his career managing construction projects. But about 15 years ago he decided he wanted to have more of a big-picture role in the developments he was working on, so he switched to real estate development. But there were some gaps in his knowledge.

“My network of contacts was limited, and I didn’t have the financial side of development,” he said.

He looked for graduate programs in real estate and chose Georgetown’s degree because it gave him the flexibility to take courses that would most benefit his career. The Master’s in Real Estate helped him on the financial side of the business, greatly expanded his network of contacts, and provided a firm foundation for the rest of his career.

“I love what I do,” said Ricciardi, who graduated in 2016. “I started in one part of the industry and then built a bigger picture. It’s been a fantastic journey.”
