With the rise of automated systems, there has been an increased demand for higher skill levels among employees within the real estate industry. As a graduate of our program, you’ll be positioned to fill this need and add value in your current job, as well as in every job after that. You'll take with you enhanced skills in finance, analysis, and negotiation that enable you to advance within your current field of real estate or to branch out to take on new challenges.
The current real estate job market has become more active and, according to a recent assessment from SelectLeaders Real Estate Job Network, hiring has surpassed the previous market peak of 2007. This upward trend has been driven by smaller firms and entrepreneurs in secondary markets, which are adding to opportunities that were once predominantly seen among larger companies and those in gateway and “top tier” markets. Looking back at trends over the past 10 years, the report noted an increase in the percentage of postings for finance and investment jobs as well as the creation of new positions in real estate technology—which did not even exist in 2007.
Throughout your time in the Real Estate program, you’ll have opportunities to build your network by engaging with leading industry experts and organizations. Our program maintains ongoing relationships and partnerships with various organizations both inside and outside the Washington, D.C., metro area. Touting a commitment to diversity within the industry, we strive to maintain an inclusive portfolio of partners representing a variety of specialties and disciplines. Additionally, each year we offer opportunities to compete in prestigious case competitions with leading universities across the United States. Teams from Georgetown’s Master’s in Real Estate program have won the MIT CASE Competition three times, more than any other university: 2014 in London, 2016 in Miami, and 2018 in San Francisco. Here in D.C., our teams have twice won the NAIOP Capital Challenge in 2019 and 2020.

The mission of this program is to create one-on-one mentoring relationships between experienced practitioners in the real estate industry and our students. You’ll be matched with a professional volunteer based on your particular focus area, and meet with him or her to ask questions, seek advice, and, ultimately, advance your professional development objectives—and your career.
