Wilson Center Global Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Security Studies at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Contributing Editor of the international journal Studies in Conflict and Terrorism. Advisor to the Global Center on Cooperative Security, New York, and del Bangladesh Center for Terrorism Research, Dhaka. He belongs to the Professional Advisory Board, International Institute for Counter Terrorism, Herzliya, Israel; to the Network of European Experts on Terrorism, Fondation pour la recherche strategique in Paris; to the Academic Research Network, United Nations Counter Terrorism Committee; to the Executive Committee, International Counter Terrorism Academic Commutity (ICTAC); and to the European Commission RAN (Radicalization Awareness Network) Center of Excellence. Between 2004 and 2006 he served as Senior Advisor on counterterrorism policy to Spain’s Minister of the Interior and subsequently as Chairman of the European Commission expert group on violent radicalization. Among other academic and civilian distinctions, he received the Cross of Military Merit in 2009 and, in 2012, the Cross of Police Merit. His most recent books are ¡Matadlos!
