Previously, Alex worked as a strategic communications consultant as a Principal at Monitor 360 and a Vice President at Hattaway Communications. He has led large-scale advocacy, branding, social media, and thought leadership initiatives for organizations such as the Ford Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Open Society Foundations, Rockefeller Foundation, Harvard Business School, CARE, Acumen Fund, National Democratic Institute, and the Human Rights Campaign. He has served as a consultant to more than a dozen candidates for elective office, including Hillary Clinton for President (2008) and Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
Alex also served as Communications Director for Congressman Harry Teague, who won a come-from-behind victory for a US House seat in New Mexico and worked as a community organizer for Democracy Matters. He served on the Board of Directors for Every Voice, a leading organization working to advance democratic reform. He holds a BA from Vassar College and a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
