Courtney Peterson

Courtney Peterson, PCC is a seasoned executive with 20+ years of human resources and leadership coaching experience. She serves as Senior Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer & Chief Human Resources Officer at Edison Electric Institute (EEI).


EEI is the premier trade association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies, including most electric utilities in the Fortune 500. Courtney is an adjunct faculty member in the human resources management program in the School of Continuing Studies.


Courtney began her career as a recruiter with the Aerotek corporation and then went on to hold national human resources leadership positions with the American Diabetes Association and the Fannie Mae Foundation. Prior to EEI, she served for nearly a dozen years as Chief People and Culture Officer at the renowned Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC.


Courtney is an experienced and certified mediator, facilitator, and a certified leadership and executive coach. She is also a trained diversity practitioner and named one of Savoy Magazine’s 2023 Most Influential Executives in Diversity & Inclusion. She is the founder and owner of  Lotus Leadership Coaching, a boutique firm that provides human resources consulting, conflict mediation and leadership coaching services. Courtney is a graduate of the Executive Certificate in Leadership Coaching Program at the Georgetown University Institute for Transformational Leadership, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Pittsburgh and also earned a Master of Science degree in Adult Education & Leadership from Robert Morris University.


Courtney is certified in numerous personality and leadership assessments and is a senior certified human resource professional, both through SHRM and the Human Resources Certification Institute. She holds the Professional Certified Coach (PCC) designation through the International Coaching Federation, as well as numerous certifications/training in diversity, equity and inclusion.


Courtney is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, and the Top Ladies of Distinction. She is also a member of the board of directors of the SHRM Foundation.
