Charlene Brown-McKenzie serves as the Director of the Center for Multicultural Equity & Access (CMEA) at Georgetown University. Charlene prepares students from underrepresented populations to access and succeed in higher education with the ultimate goal of cultivating a whole-institution approach to social and racial justice.
She also serves as Executive Director to CMEA’s community engagement and pre-college programs supporting the academic enrichment for middle and high school students in the Washington, DC area. Charlene has developed and led numerous co-curricular experiences with students, faculty, and staff to Latin America and Africa.
Her professional practice fosters engagement across dimensions of difference and also supports students and families from public and charter schools, prison justice and alternative to incarceration initiatives, early intervention services, and community-based mental health programs. Charlene earned her Master of Science in Social Work at Columbia University and her Bachelor of Arts at Georgetown University. Charlene completed her doctoral program with a research focus on cultural capital and the intersection of K-12 and higher education.
