Kimberly Connelly serves jointly on the faculties of the Real Estate and Urban & Regional Planning programs and is Vice President of Sustainability at JBG SMITH.
Connelly is an industry thought leader in the green building movement and has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, where she specializes in advancing the practices of green building development and corporate social responsibility. Connelly has worked to innovate and evolve the state of professional practice of sustainable buildings in collaborative efforts with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Association of General Contractors, the District of Columbia Building Industry Association, and Construction Materials Recovery Coalition (CMRC).
Working with the CMRC, she developed and scaled-up the marketplace for recovery, reuse and recycling of construction materials in the Washington metropolitan region. She helped revise the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems for the construction industry and in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, she revised the EPA’s IAQ Tool Kit for buildings. She is currently working to implement the District of Columbia’s building energy performance law, the nation’s most aggressive municipal effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with a city’s building stock which will make the District of Columbia carbon neutral by 2050.
She holds a Master of Architecture in Environmental Design from the Catholic University of America and a B.A. from the Ohio State University.
